How to Report Cheaters in CS2 (2026) and What Actually Happens After
How to report in CS2, what VAC Live does, how long bans take, and why third-party tools like CS2Scan are not evidence Valve uses.
Reporting feels useless because you rarely see feedback. Here's what actually happens after you click Report.
How to report correctly in CS2
- In-match: TAB > Right-click name > Report > Choose Cheating + add text like "wallhack B rush, pre-aimed through smoke 3 rounds"
- After match: Watch menu > Your Matches > Select match > Click player > Report
- For griefing/boosting: Use same flow but pick Griefing. Don't report cheating if it's just toxicity — it dilutes the cheat queue.
Detailed text helps. "Cheater" is useless. "Round 14, saw through wall on Mirage jungle, tracked through smoke" gives investigators and Overwatch-style reviewers (now VAC Live reviewers) context.
What is VAC Live?
Since late 2023, Valve runs VAC Live in CS2 competitive. If the system detects a high-confidence cheat mid-match, the match is cancelled and the cheater is banned immediately. You get a notification that the match was abandoned due to a detected cheater.
Not every cheat is caught live. Subtle cheats are still collected for delayed ban waves — 2 weeks to 3 months is normal.
How long until a ban?
- Obvious rage hack: minutes to hours (VAC Live)
- Subtle aim + walls: weeks to months (ban wave)
- Never: if it's smurfing, not cheating. Smurfing is allowed per Steam, not punished by VAC.
Do third-party checkers affect VAC?
No. CS2Scan, Leetify, FACEIT Finder, TrackBans — none of them report to Valve. Valve only uses in-game reports and its own anti-cheat telemetry. Use checkers as a second opinion for yourself, not as evidence.
This is why CS2Scan says "The score is not evidence." Only Valve can determine cheating. We measure public distance from baseline.
How to protect your own Trust Factor while reporting
- Don't spam reports. Mass-reporting everyone lowers your report weight.
- Keep Prime, a linked phone number, high Steam level, clean friend graph.
- Don't queue with banned friends — Network signal works both ways and affects who you meet.
FAQ
Will I get notified if someone I reported gets banned? Sometimes. CS2 shows a notification: "A player you reported has been banned." Not always.
Can I report from Steam profile? You can report a profile for cheating, but it does not feed the CS2 anti-cheat queue as strongly as in-game reports.
Use cs2scan.org before you report to avoid false reports — check Network + History first.
